“LEONARDO & MICHELANGELO – TWO OUTSIDERS OF THE ITALIAN RENAISSANCE"
This tour highlights two outsiders of the Italian Renaissance both feature in Milan in the Sforza Castle museums. The divine sculptor versus the sublime painter. After visiting Leonardo’s Last Supper at Santa Maria delle Grazie we will admire within the Sforza Castle premises, in the recently inaugurated Museum of the Pietà one of the most extraordinary works of art by Michelangelo Buonarroti, his late and unfinished Pietà Rondanini. The statue may well be considered a sorrowful meditation upon the theme of death, an experimental interpretation of a codified iconography that Michelangelo innovates completely. But his reclining Virgin Mary leaning over the limp body of Christ is also the embodiment of motherly love and pain. A masterpiece left unfinished by the elder master when he passed away in 1564.
ITALIAN LANGUAGE GUIDED TOUR.
Duration: h. 3:00 (including a total of approximately 15’ walking time).
